Enter to Win This Amish Novelette

Do you love Amish fiction? Enter to win this bite-sized novelette. The perfect length to read between errands or before bed.

The Widower's New Wife
The Amish Ways series, Book 1

Jebediah Brenneman lost his wife during childbirth, along with his new  baby daughter-the third daughter they had together. He relied on Eliza Yoder to help care for his wife during her last trimester, along with their two young daughters. Eliza continued to help manage his household and
his children after the death of his wife so that he could continue to work in his construction company. When Bishop Abram suggests that Jebediah is relying too much on Eliza, and that perhaps it is time he remarries, Jebediah is upset. How can he even think of remarrying someone?
Eliza Yoder realizes she is being selfish. She needs to consider Jebediah and his children's needs above her own. While she likes working for him, it may be better to step aside and allow another woman to take over. She's even willing to help him find a new wife.
Jebediah knows that his daughters need someone to look out for them, but can he consider a woman he knows that his children do not get along with? Can another woman love his children nearly as much as he does? What is Eliza willing to do for the children?
After two years of mourning the loss of his wife, Jebediah realizes how much he really needs Eliza, and how much he would miss her not being a part of his life. But has she found someone closer to her own age? Jebediah hopes that he can encourage her to become a real family.
Includes Apple Crumb Pie recipe.

From the Author:
Whenever I am busy trying to get ironing done, running errands, or trying to make dinner around  everyone's schedule, I wonder how women used to do it before we had all the newfangled appliances. With hectic schedules, it is harder for us to indulge ourselves by getting buried in a good book. This is why I have decided to write this novelette series, so busy readers have the ability to read a short story while they are waiting to pick a child up, taking kids to the dentist or doctor, or just trying to catch a few moments of peace.
Make sure to read The Amish Ways series in order. If you are part of Kindle Unlimited, it is a great time to take advantage of borrowing each book as they come out.

Transport Yourself To the Rockies In This Western Romance: Enter to Win

Do you love westerns, strong heroines, and bad boy heroes? Then this series is the one for you. Read about the books below and enter to win! :)

A Lady in Defiance

Charles McIntyre owns everything and everyone in the lawless, godless mining town of Defiance. When three good, Christian sisters from his beloved South show up stranded, alone, and offering to open a "nice" hotel, he is intrigued enough to let them stay...especially since he sees feisty middle sister Naomi as a possible conquest. But Naomi, angry with God for widowing her, wants no part of Defiance or the saloon-owning, prostitute-keeping Mr. McIntyre. It would seem however, that God has gone to elaborate lengths to bring them together. The question is, "Why?" Does God really have a plan for each and every life?

Written with gritty, but not gratuitous, realism uncharacteristic of historical Christian fiction, A Lady in Defiance gives a nod to both Pride and Prejudice and Redeeming Love. The story, based on true events, is an "ensemble" piece that deftly weaves together the relationships of the three sisters and the rowdy residents of Defiance.

Hearts in Defiance

Charles McIntyre built the lawless, godless mining town of Defiance practically with his bare hands … and without any remorse for the lives he destroyed along the way. Then a glimpse of true love, both earthly and heavenly, changed him. The question is, how much? Naomi Miller is a beautiful, decent woman. She says she loves McIntyre, that God does, too, and the past is behind them now. But McIntyre struggles to believe he’s worth saving … worth loving. Unfortunately, the temptations in Defiance only reinforce his doubts.

Billy Page abandoned Hannah Frink when he discovered she was going to have his baby … and now he can’t live with himself. Or without her. Determined to prove his love, he leaves his family and fortune behind and journeys to Defiance. Will Hannah take Billy back or give him what he deserves for the betrayal?

Gritty and realistic, this is not a sweet Christian romance. It’s life in Defiance.

~~ The sequel to the highly acclaimed, best-selling western romance A Lady in Defiance! ~~

Heather started writing when she was five; her first tale was a host story that her mom typed up for her on a Brother typewriter. Over the years, she has worked as a journalist for newspapers, magazines, and blogs. She has also spent decades in the corporate communications field, marketing everything from software to motorcycles. (Did she really just say "decades"?)

A Lady in Defiance, loosely based on true events, is set in the majestic San Juan Mountains of Colorado, the most beautiful place in the world. While a romance, it is also an "ensemble" piece that weaves together the relationships of the three sisters and the rowdy residents of Defiance. Heather has two sisters whom she loves dearly. One is still with us, the other crossed over to be with Lord in 1999 and it is she who inspired the character of Hannah.

Heather grew up on a steady diet of Bonanza, Gunsmoke, and John Wayne Westerns. Her most fond memories are of sitting next to her dad, munching on popcorn, and watching Lucas McCain unload that Winchester! She loves exploring out West and would happily spend all her time researching and exploring ghost towns till the cows come home.

Heather lives with her husband and two adventurous boys on a farm outside Raleigh, NC. They enjoy riding practically anything with four legs or two wheels, and being outdoors.

Enter to Win All Natural Revitalizing Shampoo

If you know me, you'll know I'm about as helpless at salons as my three-year-old son. Maybe more so. The first time I went to my MOPs group's spa day, I was so intimidated I literally hid myself in the corner as far away from those scary feminine products as possible.
But shampoo and conditioner is on the safe end of salon and spa treatments (painless, unlike eyebrow threading. Remind me to NEVER try that again. :) And they smell good.)

So when I was asked to review some samples of the new shampoo and conditioner Monat, I said yes. I was impressed by it's laboratory results. Almost 50% increase in hair growth; 70% increase in hair repair. And all natural.
This morning I tried it. Monat smells like a hair salon and left my hair feeling professionally clean and nice. As someone who usually buys the bargain brand on sale at Walmart, it was fun to use quality hair products.
Here's me after using Monat. (Waves thanks to hair gel.)

Organized Crime, Drug Rings, A Mother Desperate to Save Her Son: Enter to Win "Secrets & Lies"

Mystery, crime, and romance, does it get better than that? Read a little more about Janet Sketchley's book Secrets & Lies below and enter to WIN.

A single mother must protect her teenage son—from organized crime and from himself. Carol Daniels thinks she outran her enemies, until a detective arrives at her door with a warning from her convict brother. Minor incidents take on a sinister meaning. An anonymous phone call warns her not to hide again. Now she must cooperate with a drug lord while the police work to trap him. Carol has always handled crisis alone, but this one might break her. Late-night deejay Joey Hill offers friendship and moral support. Can she trust him? One thing's certain. She can't risk prayer.
       Meet the key players:
Carol Daniels: Starting fresh in a new city, she doesn't want anyone to connect her with her
Paul Daniels: At sixteen, he's living a double life to keep peace at home.
Patrick Stairs: A successful investment consultant, he's been walking empty since his wife
Joey Hill: Friendly and easy to talk to, he's the latenight deejay at Carol's favourite radio
Four people with secrets. How many are telling lies?

Read the first page:
Carol jolted upright, eyes wide in the dark. She searched for familiar touchstones to pull her back to reality. The faint light outlining her bedroom curtains. The red digits on her clock radio, mocking her with the hours left until dawn. The two dark rectangles on her bureau — Paul's and Keith's school photos. Her hands ached. It took a conscious act of will to release her twofisted grip on the sheets.
The after-images of Carol's dream burned in her imagination. Her sixteen-year-old son, larger than life on a brightly-lit stage, arms raised to embrace the crowd's cheers, electric guitar draped low across his hips. An oversized brown leather jacket hung open over his faded Tshirt and jeans. Carol knew that jacket. Buttersoft Italian calfskin, steeped in beer and Old Spice, nicked and scraped here and there and with a cigarette burn inside the left cuff. Skip's jacket. Paul's father's.
In her dream she'd stood beside her son, but Paul only had eyes for his fans. An almost palpable energy radiated from his body — the same power trip that took Skip whenever he performed. With the same cost to those who loved him.

Learn a little more about Tessa and the author in my interview with Robin E. Mason below.

Me: What was your inspiration for “Tessa?”
Robin E. Mason: The opening of Tessa “came” to me one afternoon when I was taking a walk.
“Tessa flopped onto the divan, more worn and weary in her thirty-seven years than the faded and threadbare divan in its 137 years.”  I wrote it down as soon as I got home. For me, anything and everything can be an inspiration for a story.

Me: Do you have your next story in mind?  What’s it about?
Robin: A few people asked me about a sequel to Tessa, which I had not igured on.  But toward the end of the story, one of the characters asks an innocent question that leaves it wide open.
And, when I thought about it, I actually left it wide open in Chapter One for the sequel.  It is entitled, Clara Bess.  In Tessa, Cassie hides her very identity from everyone for several years.  Clara Bess, however, is rather the opposite; she finds out that she is not who she believed herself to be.  And, I just “found out” C.B. has a secret of her own, too.
Here's a sneak peek of book #2's cover.

Me: What do you like most about being a writer?
Robin: The creative process, which really isn’t much of a process at all.  It’s amorphic, fluid, ever changing.  While I know I need the [ahem] discipline, as a creative, this flexibility serves me well.  I really love being able to tell a story that others enjoy reading.  And as I’ve cast my networking net, I am thriving on the community of writers I am now part of!

Me: What's the hardest part about being a writer?
Robin: The [ahem] discipline to park it and do it!  That and the marketing, which I was surprised to find that I rather enjoy, but it’s still not my thing and doesn’t come naturally to me.  I’m learning…

Me: Tell us a little about your writing journey.
Robin: I first started writing in 1996.  I was going through some deep healing, and Holy Spirit dropped it in me to write.  My story.  What began as separated pieces of my life, I eventually put together in one single story.  It may or may not ever see publication.  Then for several years I was prolific writing poetry but left off the prose.  In 2008, I was going for the aforementioned walk and Tessa was begun.  But nearly as soon as I started, I was hijacked: I went back to school in February 2009.  I wrote some, in scraps and pieces, but I was also diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis at the end of 2010 and finishing my degree was about all I had strength for.  I graduated in May of 2013 with my BFA in Interior Design, and didn’t land that wonderfully anticipated job.  I waited, and filled in my time poking around with Tessa.  Somewhere in the fall of 2013, I got serious and set a goal to get published.  A fellow author at church suggested I start with self-pubbing on Kindle, and I set my target date to be done: 31 January 2014.  I made it with two days to spare and Tessa went live on 1 March.  In October, the print version was released.  I knew nothing of editors or proofreaders, or beta readers for that matter.  I am perpetually editing, and I had others reading, and off I went.  I haven’t looked back since!

Me: Why do you write Christian fiction?
Robin: For me it’s an opportunity to express my faith without being “preachy.”  There’s a time and place for traditional witnessing, but to me the greater value and effect is being real in what I believe and living my life accordingly; indeed, this opens the door for direct ministry.  For me to be able to write the way I write – which I cannot market at Christian Fiction because of a few “no-no” words – and yet I am a Christian and I am an author, so my faith is in every word I write [yet, even “those” words] and my story conveys what I believe.  In the grander scheme, Christian fiction is a platform that readers hold in their hands, and they may confront a Truth they never realized or understood before.  If something I write gives a reader pause, plants a seed, or waters a seed planted, then my story is a success.

Me: What advice do you have for others aspiring to be a published author?
Robin: Network.  I did not do any of it in the “prescribed” order.  I just jumped in without knowing othing from nothing.  I wrote.  I published.  Then  I started blogging.  It wasn’t until six months after Tessa first came out on Kindle that I started interacting with other authors. As I shared posts from other writers, I began to interact with and “meet” others.  I am primarily on Facebook, but I share to my blog and Twitter.  I write reviews, and give interviews.  I promote others’ books and events.  And the dreaded marketing.  I’m pretty good at putting my own memes together, and have to make myself post every day; but you have to be aware which groups are okay to post in and which are not.  Also, as a Christian, be aware of groups that are not Christian and if there are genres that conflict with your beliefs.  I choose not to be associated with some groups for that reason.
Don’t compare yourself – your writing or your journey – to another writer.  What works, or fits, for one will and necessarily be the best plan for you.  Much of this is trial and error to find what suits each of us best.
Following that is, KEEP WRITING! And don’t let yourself get discouraged.  If – when – you start to feel discouraged, write.  Write anything.  Even if you turn and scrap it later, write.  For a writer, the best cure for just about anything is writing.  Keep looking forward, keep moving forward; find your stride.  And always KEEP WRITING!
One more nugget, which most writers accept as par for the course.  Read.  Read.  And read some more.  I have read some that were not what I would have otherwise read, and found that I quite enjoyed them.  Like any other field, we are ever learning and growing, and honing our craft.

Me: How do you hope your readers react to your stories?
Robin:  Like any other author, I hope readers fall in love with my characters. I hope they find some truth, something that speaks to them in the words I write.  I hope some facet of my story rings true with my readers.

Me: What do you like to do in your spare time?
Robin:  Good question.  LOL  I love to go for walks, love being outdoors.  I have multiple art projects “in the wings” – drawings and paintings, and art books.  I like to cook, but that’s not so much a spare time activity.  And of course I love to spend time with my grandgirls!

Me: What is the most surprising thing you've learned about writing/publishing?
Robin: The network of friends I’ve made.  The sister bond with some, the camaraderie with most. Shared woes and victories aren’t so surprising, but knowing that I’m not alone in this Indie journey is amazing.

Me: What is your favorite genre to read.
Robin:  Hands down, historical fiction, especially Biblical fiction.  I love history, and enjoy thoroughly researched and well written prose involving true historical events and figures.

Me: Where can we purchase your books and how can we keep up with you?
Robin: I am predominantly on Facebook, and my blog is on wordpress.  I will be redesigning it in the next few weeks with a whole new look!

Juggling: Family, Work, Home

Ever feel overwhelmed as a parent? Sometimes spend the entire day just trying to keep all the plates spinning? For many of us, along with the tension of balancing work and kids, there's also the question, "How much work vs. kids should I be doing?" Here's a great guest blogpost by Maggie Makris about how she chose to fit work into her life. Check out her blog at Momzcuisine.
Did you make a different decision about work and parenting? I'd love to hear your thoughts in a guest blogpost. Just shoot me an email at

Some would consider this a circus act, but to me it's part of life. Juggling more than two things has been part of my life ever since I can remember. It wasn't a matter of adjusting my life, but a matter of adjusting my schedule to include or extract a certain project. My family and I never really made a transition from work to family. It became a part of our lives. I must say I believe that I gained more respect because of work.
Prior to my children's birth I was working as an ESL teacher. When I gave birth to my first child. I still continued working, although it was difficult. I never wanted my kids to say mom cooks, cleans and shops, (that's a no – no on my list); I had much more to offer than that! I found my sanity through work. I only stopped working for three years. After that I worked as a sales representative from home booking yachts and cruises to American clients and at the same time writing numerous articles for the company's site. During that time my daughter was 3 months old and my son 3 1⁄2. A difficult task but not something that couldn't be accomplished. Reflecting back on a particular account, ( I was on the phone with a client while changing my daughter's diaper I was finalizing and confirming every detail on the client's itinerary), I still laugh and I'm very proud of myself!
Another incident that comes to mind is when the clients had arrived at the dock to begin their cruise, but no skipper was available. Panic wasn't even a thought. I dressed my six month old daughter, (Michael Schummacer couldn't have done it faster.) and arrived at the dock's office. I had marketing bags with souvenirs. I gave then to the clients while serving them chilled drinks and chatting with them. Let me not forget my daughter was the center of attention. As they were drinking, enjoying their gifts and gazing at the beautiful sea, I was fervently working in the office with the crew to find a skipper. Just as they had finished their drinks, I found a skipper and they went on their cruise just as planned. I felt so good that I had accomplished the unbelievable. They loved their cruise, and were very satisfied with the service. We  have remained friends to this day. After two years, I quit and I had decided to start my own business. A lot of market research, business planning, finding merchandise, setting up a site ( my husband helped) all this while having two kids, home schooling my son in English and being a very part time care taker to my 89 year old grandmother. My company has been up and running for 5 years now.
Today, aside from all the above, I'm a part time teacher (ESL) to a friend's child and I also blog over at Mommy's Kitchen (
All my eggs in one basket and not one broke. I've lost a lot of sleep, but I have gained lots of respect. My motto has always been: what the mind conceives it achieves !!!

Legacy of Grandpa's Grapevine: A Time When Family Was Everything

My grandpas, both wonderful men and WWII veterans, didn't have vineyards. But Linda Masucci's did. Her new book about her grandpa's immigration to the United States and life in the Italian section just came out. Check it out below!
Legacy of Grandpa’s Grapevine

Released January 2015
I can’t recall the first memory I have of my Grandpa Frank, but I can recall the many Sundays at his home just listening to him speak. He told stories of coming to America with ten dollars in his pocket and his best girl by his side. When he laughed, you could see his stained teeth from all those cigars he smoked since the age of twelve. His face was worn from working outside at the trolley yards and his hands had calluses and scars. Grandpa Frank was a slim man with wavy white hair. I’m sure, in his youth, he must have been an attractive man, but to me he was just my Grandpa Frank. An old man who always had time to sit with me and listen to my worries, hopes and insecurities. Whether I was eight years old or sixteen years old, I could always depend on Grandpa Frank for a listening ear. He was never hard to find either. From my house to his, it was a quick bike ride and all down hill too! Pass the town bank, cross the street at the market, turn left across the tracks, and you entered the Italian side of town. Grandpa Frank and Grandma Marie moved into the two story white house after they left Brooklyn. Grandpa said the Italian section was called Goat’s Island, because so many of the families had goats in their yards. I don’t remember Grandpa Frank having goats — I guess he got tired of taking care of them. There was one thing he never got tired of caring for, and that was his grapevine. (Prologue)

What Others Are Saying
Linda Massucci captures the heart of family values in ‘Legacy of Grandpa’s Grapevine’. The flashbacks throughout the story will find the reader laughing and reflecting about their own family memories and adventures as a child. The bond between the main character’s, Elizabeth and Grandpa Frank, will have readers wanting to be a part of their special relationship.
‘Legacy of Grandpa’s Grapevine’ is a must read for anyone who yearns for a simpler time in life or just that ‘special person’ who is always there to provide guidance and wisdom with unconditional love. Maybe this world would be a lot easier if we all had a Grandpa Frank. Until then, let’s hope Miss Massucci keeps writing.

Hope Reborn

From the Author

HOPE REBORN is Book Three in my historical Christian Texas Romance series behind VOW UNBROKEN (March 4, 2014 / Simon and Schuster) and HEARTS STOLEN (September 5, 2014), both flourishing and well received as evidenced by the overwhelming majority of 5-Star reviews! It includes many of the Baylor and Buckmeyer characters readers came to love in the earlier stories and some new characters sure to win more hearts to this series. The major being a highly successful New York dime novelist Millicent May Meriwether. Bored with stuffy heroes and shallow heroines, she sees an article in the New York Tribune about a couple of Texas Rangers who’d brought a Comanche chief to justice. Rough and tough, great hero material! In the spur of the moment, she decided and called for Chester, her ever present right hand man. “We’re going to Texas!”
At eighty-three thousand words, this novel is a wee shorter that the first two, but has no less adventure and emotional angst. It is a stand alone novel, but readers are sure to love it even more if they’ve read books one and two. Book four, SINS OF THE MOTHERS will debut in early May for Mothers Day.
May certainly encounters way more than she ever bargains for both in the travel to Texas and upon her arrival. The secrets of her past continue to haunt her dreams and assure her fate to be an old maid until death, never to know the true love she writes about in every story or the joy of being a mother.
Finally in Texas, she’s told Ranger Major Levi Baylor and his Captain, Wallace Rusk, aren’t even there, but due back soon. She ends up in the home of several of her biggest fans who’ve read every book she’s written! Who would have believed her fame was so far spread?
The young readers, all Buckmeyer beauties, are Henry and Sue’s daughters. Readers met the girls as children in HEARTS STOLEN and should enjoy seeing how they’ve grown. So while May fights her demons, she meets a handsome widower who sparks a bit of hope in her heart. But he has his own issues, too. One being his devotion to God which just doesn’t fit into May’s agnostic existence. Before it’s over, she’s wishing she never stepped foot in the new Lone Star State, but whether Chester will leave, go home with her, comes into question when he and Mammy spend more time together. Can she ever go back to her boring life in New York…alone?

With fourteen titles released by six publishers, Simon & Schuster author Caryl McAdoo is excited about her new historical Christian Texas Romance HOPE REBORN, book three after VOW UNBROKEN (1832 /March 2014), book two HEARTS STOLEN (1844 / September, 2014) She also enjoys success with her new Biblical fiction series The Generations, volume one A LITTLE LOWER THAN THE ANGELS (November 2014) and volume two THEN THE DELUGE COMES releases in March 2015. The novelist also edits, paints, and writes new songs. In 2008, she and her high school sweetheart-husband Ron moved from the DFW area—home for almost fifty years—to the woods of Red River County. Caryl counts four children and fourteen grandsugars life’s biggest blessings believing all good things come from God. The "Get Fit" Supplement That's Flooding the Market

So, as I worked on growing my blog these last few months, I discovered this new craze among bloggers--reviews.  Readers seemed to love reading them, and oftentimes the company who got their product reviewed pays you a small stipend.  Win-win. And you get a free product. So I set off to review something cool like a juicer or a purse.
Nobody wanted me. Apparently 4,000 hits a month really isn't that impressive in the blogsphere.
Then I received an email asking me to review Cambogia Garcinia and Rasberry Ketones, appetite suppressing supplements.
Diet pills? I'm not going to review diet pills. People will think I'm fat! (Ok, probably not the most mature reaction. ;))
And when I took a closer look, I saw Cambogia Garcinia is also marketed to increase serotonin, a key brain chemical that affects depression and anxiety. Rasberry Ketones can raise norepinephrine, an important calming brain chemical. I'm a mental health counselor and natural supplements that can affect depression and anxiety are a major focus of study for me.

      So in I plunged.
First, the warning label for Cambogia Garcinia. There is such a thing as too much serotonin. This leads to serotonin syndrome which is very dangerous. Naturally you are in no danger of creating too much serotonin, but pairing a supplement that increases serotonin with an antidepressant or other psychotic med that increases serotonin is NEVER a good idea. So consult your doctor before taking Cambogia Garcinia if you are on an antidepressant or any similar type of mental health drug.
Cambogia Garcinia works two ways. 1. It increases serotonin, a happy brain chemical, thus regulating your appetite. If you're overweight, serotonin will decrease your appetite. If you're underweight, serotonin will actually increase your appetite. 2. The supplement blocks your body's ability to store fat and breaks up visceral fat. Visceral fat is the fat that resides in your stomach region and can get entangled in your internal organs. This is the kind of fat most likely to push you over into diabetes or heart disease. So getting rid of it's a good idea!
All the studies I read showed that Cambogia Garcinia is a very safe supplement. The only possible side effects are nausea and diarrhea. Like everything, don't take this if you're pregnant. (Actually, to make your ob-gyn truly happy, just find a sterile bubble to live in for 9 months.)
I've heard of people taking a lot of different drugs to reduce appetite, including Robitussun. As a counselor, I cringe when I hear that. Please don't mess with your body in such an unhealthy way! The Cambogia Garcinia diet supplement though, should be good for your health since it helps boost important brain chemicals. I can't promise you that you'll get your money's worth from this supplement. Unfortunately, because of the time constraints on when this review was expected, I did not have time to make myself a guinea pig and take all the pills. But I did take some and there was no magical 7lbs of weight-loss in a week. So don't expect to skip the treadmill or chow down on Double Macs just because you're taking Cambogia Garcinia and Rasberry Ketones.
But, these supplements are not going to hurt you. And they'll help with the winter blues, even if they don't make you lose weight.
Want to try it out? Buy Cambogia Garcinia here.

I received a small (very small) amount of payment for posting this review. Not near large enough of a payment to make me lie or anything. ;)

Page-Turning Fantasy Read: Enter to Win

Do you love adventurous tales? Do you long to be transported to a different world for a few hours? Is Fantasy your genre? Then this page turner is the book for you. Enter to win below.

Of the Persecuted
by Angie Brashear

Laila Pennedy awaits death by hanging. For the Rendow Clan rules the Woodlands Region, aiming to slaughter the Faithful. And she deserves to die. But Lars Landre, the man destined to lead the Faithful out of persecution, has other plans hidden behind his rare and mysterious blue eyes. Rescue.
Following the daring escape, Laila seeks the path of a warrior and vows revenge against the Rendow Clan. She embarks on a dangerous journey with Lars, one in which they endeavor to reach the promised safety of a magical village, to train for battle, and to ultimately assure freedom for those with faith in the Maker.
Clashes of weapons and souls. Brutal loss of lives. Unrequited love. How in all the Woodlands will Laila survive?

What Others Are Saying
This is a gripping fantastic story of faith, sacrifice, and adventure. The author pulls you in from the very first line of the book. I was truly captivated with this story and read it all the way through in one sitting. It is an amazing and suspenseful book that compares the things the characters went through to the Bible in a fantasy sort of way. I just absolutely loved this book and I can’t wait to read more by this author. This book gets 5***** from me and I am highly recommending it to anyone and everyone. It is a must read story of faith, determination, adventure and suspense. You will not be disappointed.

Absolutely loved this book! I really liked how it wasn't just based on the love between the two main characters but also the love they share for "the Maker". This book really grabbed my attention and kept me guessing on what was going to happen next, which is really hard to find these days. This book had the perfect combination of love, adventure, and faith. I really liked the main female character because although she had her insecurities, like most girls do, she overcame them, which gives a really strong message to all girls with their own insecurities big or small. I loved the male character for obvious reasons, Dreamy! Definitely a must read!

I could not put this book down! I read it cover to cover in less than 48 hours. The descriptions used by the author create a vivid image in the reader's mind of the magical setting for this spiritual journey of the characters. Definitely a must read!!! I've already recommended to friends and my online book club put it next in line.
Finally! A book I can recommend to my friends and students! Laila and Lars captivated my attention. I wasn't ready for the book to end, but I am looking forward to the next one. Glad I bought more than one.
I could NOT put this book down! This is not a genre that I am naturally drawn to, but the story is so intriguing and the adventures so compelling that I could not stop reading once I started. Angie uses words in such a way that you feel like you could be watching a movie instead of merely reading words on a page. The integrity and simple, yet bold faith of her characters challenged me to consider the depth of my faith and my willingness to "fight the good fight". I would highly recommend this book to young and old (I am 57). You will not be disappointed. I'M HUNGRY FOR BOOK 2!!!

Women, Leadership, & the Bible. Enter to WIN this book explaining it all. :)

Women, leadership, the Bible. Say those three words in any Bible-reading crowd and you can spark a lively debate in a matter of seconds. Ever wondered how to delve deeper into what the Bible says about these topics? Enter to WIN Dr. Natalie Eastman's book below.

Women, Leadership, & the Bible
by Natalie Eastman

Have you ever found yourself saying: "I wish I knew how to understand what the Bible really says about women's roles in church leadership. The many conflicting opinions, positions, and practices I see and hear confuse me. They all argue their points and positions from the Bible!"
For someone who’s trying to discern God's heart on a major issue, wading through the myriad conflicting authoritative and peer voices produces more than a little anxiety. The insecurity that comes from being unclear or unsure can feel paralyzing.
Can you relate? Often, you still function in the meantime. You keep serving, quietly fearful that you may be disobeying God if you make the wrong choice. You keep relating the best you can, nervous that you may be relating wrongly. You keep seeking answers in the Word, wondering why you can't seem to fit the pieces together.
Do you want to be able to cut through all of those voices to hear God's voice on this—and any other difficult topics you face in life? Seminary or Bible school would be a great choice for that; but perhaps you don't have the time or resources to attend seminary at this point in life. Would you like to
learn how to interpret and understand the Bible to find answers to your toughest life questions—for
yourself, at a very advanced level, and without attending seminary?
Plenty of books exist telling women what to think; precious few help women think for themselves, particularly about theological issues. Women, Leadership, and the Bible (WLB) helps women learn to interpret the Bible and discern for themselves answers to their questions about women’s roles in the church, and any other issue. In straightforward, plain language, Dr. Eastman introduces women to a five-step, easy-to-follow process for studying the Bible and interpreting what they study.
What Others Are Saying
"I have heard women tell me their one life wish is to study the Scriptures. I am delighted to be able to say they finally can, without going to seminary. Natalie Eastman dignifies women’s minds with her careful steps for understanding the Bible. You will finish prepared to face those 'problem
passages' not just about women’s roles but about everything. Natalie Eastman is an ideal guide
because she refuses to tell you what to think, instead she delivers the tools, that all teachers of
the Bible use, to unlock meaning and application.”
—Jonalyn Fincher, Author of Ruby Slippers
Women, Leadership, & the Bible serves as a strategic resource that helps you find answers to your theological questions and, just as important, find freedom from confusion. Everyone who reads and uses WLB, simply following the methodical steps presented in its pages, will find their Bible study deepened, their issues clarified, their peace and confidence raised. It’s important to note that WLB does not take a position on the issue of women's roles—nor does it 'lean' in one direction over another. Instead, Dr. Eastman teaches women proven methods of discernment, so they may come to their own conclusion, within the context of their own communities. Dr. Eastman has successfully created a safe and objective "space," within the pages of the book, for women to explore this issue—and any other issue they have questions about and want to explore biblically.
If you want to gain clarity on your hardest biblical questions, learn to sift and sort ideas, interpretations, opinions, and feelings through the lens of Scripture, rather than the other way around, find you own interpretive voice as you gain Bible analysis and interpretation skills at a seminarian's level, and experience confidence before God that you are being obedient in understanding his Word as best you can . . . then this is the book you want to read next.

What Would Happen If You Were Stolen?: Enter to win this fascinating novel about human trafficking

A far off land, enslaved captives, a woman willing to risk it all, a love story: novels don't get much better than this. The review I wrote of Stolen Woman by Kimberly Rae is below. Also enter to win. There will be FIVE prize winners.
 Stolen Woman
by Kimberly Rae

Human Trafficking . . . Asha knew nothing about it before meeting 16-year-old Rani, stolen from her home and forced into prostitution in Kolkata, India. Asha must help this girl escape, but Mark, a third-generation missionary, keeps warning her away from the red-light district and its workers. Will she ever discover why? And will they ever stop their intense arguments long enough to admit their even more intense feelings for one another? When Asha sneaks out one last time in a desperate attempt to rescue her friend, someone follows her through the night. Is freedom possible? Or will she, too, become one of the stolen?

My Review
I opened up this book because of the human trafficking themes. I also was very impressed by the authors' resume. Kimberly Rae has lived in Bangladesh, Uganda, Kosovo, and Indonesia. What I got when I opened the book was an intriguing look into the sights and sounds of India. Stolen Woman has a rich setting. You will feel like you are in India as you read about the village markets, "see" the exquisite saris, and hear about the struggle local missionaries encounter to help the trafficked women under the noses of the pimp-controlled authorities. In this world, one misstep means enslavement or death.
But the heroine doesn't know that. Asha, the American adoptee heroine might have the right skin color to fit in, but she's far from aware of all the brutal undercurrents running below the outwardly colorful and happy town of Kolkata. She travels to Kolkata to work in the local orphanage for a summer's mission trip. Before long though, she ends up deeply involved in a trafficked girl's life. The rewards, saving a girl from a life of sex trafficking, are very real, but the risks are just as real. Will Asha lose her own freedom in her attempt to save her friend?
